Poison To Your Ears

Despite having gone through three guitarists, three singers, three bass players, and two drummers since 1998, Florida-grown hardcore band Poison the Well has managed to gain popularity over the years. Even with a constantly rotating lineup, this cast of metalcore characters has kept a similar sound for eight years – and then came the major label contract (Atlantic Records, that is). Unlike the younger crop of post-hardcore bands, Poison the Well is an emo-screamo mixture of melodic lyrics you can understand (or, at least, decipher without liner notes) and guttural screams reminiscent of the Stormtroopers of Death and Megadeth. It’s a throwback to Iron Maiden and Slayer that manages to keep up with screamo’s new kids on the block like Underoath and From First to Last. Ha, we said “new kids on the block.” The well gets poisoned Friday at the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). Doors open at 7 p.m. with the Fall of Troy, Horse the Band, and Criteria. Tickets cost $12. Call 954-564-1074, or visit www.cultureroom.net.
Fri., April 21
