Another Gay Movie
And another, and another...
Hollywood has fallen into a formulaic rut. Movies are often predictable, following a very simple pattern: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back and a happy ending ensues -- complete with cheesy romantic score. Well, prepare to enjoy some convention-defying films because the Eighth Annual Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festivalhas arrived. The festival started last week and runs through Sunday, culminating with the Florida premiere screening of the comedy Another Gay Movieand a closing gala that’s sure to be fun and fabulous. There will be movie premieres, short films, documentaries, panel discussions, chances to meet some of the cast and crew, and, of course, plenty of partying. With nine days of gay and lesbian films from small town gay bar to Fag Hags: Women Who Love Men,there’s sure to be something for everyone. There’ll probably enough Brokeback Mountainjokes to turn you off cowboys forever, but if not, there’s a panel discussion on Sunday at 1 p.m. called “Beyond Brokeback Mountain” that will look at how this seminal film altered the landscape of Hollywood and the future of gay and lesbian moviemaking.
