Black Hearts

Every good metal band needs a symbol to sport – something that’ll look keen on a T-shirt, lunchbox, or anything else on sale at Hot Topic. Led Zeppelin had its trademark Zoso. Slayer has made good use of the satanic pentagram. And now, Finland’s self-proclaimed “love metal” group HIMhas its own signature marking -- the heartagram. Dreamed up by HIM’s eccentric frontman Ville Vole, the heartagram is half pentagram, half heart, and all rock ´n’ roll -- an intriguing dichotomy that perfectly represents HIM’s Scandinavian-metal-meets-love-ballad sound. Since its first major stateside release, Dark Light, HIM's U.S. following has ballooned. The heartagram is quickly becoming a cultural icon as well, thanks in part to MTV’s Bam Margera, who adorned both his abdomen and skateboard with it. Love-sick metalheads from all over South Florida can bear witness to the awesome power of the ´gram this Tuesday night when HIM rocks out at Revolution (200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) with special guests Alden. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $25 to $27.50. Call 954-727-0950, or visit www.jointherevolution.net.
