We Heart Nonpoint

When Fort Lauderdale’s resident rock star Elias Soriano called, we were excited to ask him about the the new album (To the Pain) from his band, nonpoint. Like, what are the ideal conditions for listening to it? “You put it on, reach down and grab a bunch of weights. Or, if you’re pissed off at your parents, you run in your room, slam the door and turn it up. Or if your boyfriend cheats on you, if your girlfriend’s a slut… It goes with extreme, extreme emotion.” So it’s not really, like, a lovemaking album? “Well, yeah – love is an extreme emotion.”

Soriano says that even though he has videos on MTV, a song (“Bullet with a Name”) in the Top 20 on the Billboard active rock charts, and lives “an interesting quality of life; I don’t have to set an alarm, which is kind of fun,” it’s “a fallacy that rock stars have a bunch of money.” He still keeps it humble by sharing a Coconut Creek apartment with his drummer, although he did just buy a new Mazda sports coupe, which he likes to drive around while blasting “We Major” by Kanye West. (In the shower, he sings “Zebra Skin” by Dredg.) Tonight, after they’ve visited their families and checked their mail, nonpoint plays to the hometown crowd at Revolution (200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Dress sharp; they’re filming a DVD and recording a live CD. Doors open at 7 p.m. with supporting bands Revelation Theory and Burn Season. Tickets cost $15.
