Two Tones and Ringtones

The Black and White Ska Fest

Sure, they've got a song called "Ska Is Dead," but Boca Raton's Skuff'd Shoesare anything but departed. Neither, for that matter, are the band's numerous two-tone-toting peers. How else would they be able to pull off booking all these ska fests? This weekend's Black and White Ska Fest features more bands than you can skank a stick at. The Shoes pack their set full of traditional ska, reggae, and punk — but not necessarily ska-punk, in the cutesy, kitschy form it often takes. Imagine the middle ground between the Toasters and Against All Authority and that's a ballpark estimate of where Skuff'd Shoes reside. Besides, if ska really were dead, would the band have its own ringtones on xingtone.com?

The Black and White Ska Fest, featuring Skuff'd Shoes, Three Beef Burritos, Which Way Is Up?, Break on Through, and more takes place at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6, at Uncle Sam's, 4580 University Dr., Lauderhill. Admission costs $6 for one night or $8 for both nights. Call 954-742-2466, or visit www.unclesamsmusic.com.
