OC Agents

Agent Orange

Coming on the heels of last month's Circle Jerks show, Respectable Street plays host to yet another seminal SoCal punk band — Agent Orange. Like the Circle Jerks, the Orange County-based trio, led by guitarist/vocalist Mike Palm, was a forerunner of the early '80s West Coast punk scene. But unlike the Jerks, Agent Orange was never a straight-up punk band. Even on its debut album, 1981's Living in Darkness, the group fused elements of punk, surf, and power pop — a sound that would soon be labeled skate-core. Decades later, Darkness tracks like "Bloodstains" and "Everything Turns Grey" still turn up in skate videos (Big Brother magazine's) and even videogames (Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4). Too bad The OC doesn't feature punk bands. And no, Lady Sovereign's Sex Pistols cover doesn't count.

Agent Orange performs Saturday, January 13, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. The show starts at 8 p.m. with openers Band Number 12, the Hard Richards, and Protagonist. Tickets cost $10. Call 561-832-9999, or visit www.slammie.com.
