Boogie Woogie

James Cotton

James Cotton cut his teeth playing mouth harp with Sonny Boy Williamson at the tender age of 9 in the Mississippi Delta. His blues harmonica has influenced rock legends such as Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. To get a sense of how much mileage Cotton has under his belt, he was the main harmonica player for Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters before all three were famous. He's recorded dusty albums at Nashville's Sun Records, shined shoes on Beale Street, and played every juke joint between Natchez and Chicago. South Florida blues lovers should be delighted to hear a true blast from the past.

James Cotton performs two shows for the 20th Annual Pre-Blues Festival & Concert on Saturday, January 27, at the Downtowner Saloon, 408 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. First show is at 8:30 p.m., second show at 10:15 p.m. Tickets cost $20. Call 954-463-9800, or visit www.riverwalkbluesfestival.com.
