There aren't too many MCs in hip-hop that get as much respect as Rakim. He's got the stage presence of a legend and rocks a party like its 1987 every time he touches a microphone. Starting off his career as one half of Erik B. & Rakim, he helped change the way hip-hop was perceived by the masses. When the group's album Paid in Full dropped two decades ago, Rakim was already rapping like a godfather. With his raw, inimitable voice, it's no wonder he's regarded as hip-hop royalty around the globe. So expect a legion of fans to come out and support Rakim Allah as he graces the stage with DJ Kid Capri on the turntables. Although these two are the main event, heads should also support Miami's Brimstone 127, who are releasing their new LP, Elevator Music, that night as well.

Rakim performs Saturday, January 27, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Also performing are Brimstone 127, Kid Capri, the Brass King, and DJ Jase. Doors open at 10 p.m. Tickets cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Call 954-727-0950, or visit www.jointherevolution.net.
