Art Therapy

Do you ever feel that life has just gone downhill since kindergarten? Afternoon naps, recess, snack time… they’ve all been snatched away by the wicked clutches of the so-called “real world.” But now you can reacquaint yourself with your old friend Elmer during weekly arts & crafts sessions, a.k.a. the Sunday Art Workshop Series. Conceptualized and led by Talya Lerman, a Dreyfoos High grad who comes from a long line of visual artists (Mama Lerman and Grandma Lerman had a way with a paintbrush, too), the series offers the chance to make fine art – and still get paint on your “play clothes.” Previous classes have included bookmaking, silkscreen, and something called “dream boxes,” and this week Lerman leads two sessions: mini calendars (you’ll make small collages for each month of the year using tiny items like matchbooks), and wearable art (pins, pendants, and bracelets). And look! Is snack time making a comeback, too? Talya serves free iced tea and cookies! The mini calendar workshop lasts from noon to 2 p.m. at Lerman’s studio (1629 N. “J” Terrace, Lake Worth), and wearable art lasts from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Soma Center (609 Lake Ave., Lake Worth). Eclectic collage is an option at every class as well. $10 covers instruction and materials. Visit www.talyacreates.com.
