We humans can be an annoyingly fickle bunch -- rarely satisfied, usually wanting more -- and often discarding whatever or whoever we no longer need. So the fact that dogs have remained our best friends for 10,000 years or so is really something for us to be proud of. Yes, those loyal and lovable canines have been one of the few species that will put up with us, and we've shown our gratitude by pampering them with everything from gourmet pet foods to doggie day spas. One of the few things they ask in return is just that we remember to walk them a few times a day, and right about now, you and your pooch are probably panting together like equals on your daily excursions.

The dog days of summer are here, and the Cornell Museum at Delray Beach's Old School Square is taking it to heart with its current exhibition, For the Love of Dogs. It features 25 multi-media dog portraits by national and international artists, including Faith Cameron Semmes and Barry Barnett (courtesy of the Dog Art Dealer Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina), over 200 paintings, sculptures, and photographs from local artists, as well as work by aspiring children artists. Special events include outdoor Friday Night Flicks on June 29th, July 27th, and August 31st, and the Doggie Duds & Fashion Stroll on August 16th.

For the Love of Dogs runs through September 8th at the Cornell Museum, Old School Square(51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach).Tickets cost between $4 and $6. Call 561-243-7922, or visit www.oldschool.org.
