The Dirty Sea

Etienne Courcelle says his greatest passions are the ocean and women. While he certainly would not be the first artist (or even the thousandth) to cite those particular sources of inspiration, the French contemporary painter and sculptor has a few strokes on his palate you may not have seen before. In fact, there are enough that some might find his work to seem more than a little weird. By layering water imagery with the oddly anatomical, he exposes his idiosyncrasies for the erotic. And upon closer inspection, you will find his work as deeply thought-provoking as the oceans are vast.

The works of Etienne Courcelle are on display beginning tonight at Saba Gallery (1015 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). There will be a reception at the swank digs to celebrate the event from 7 to 9 p.m.; cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Call 954-467-5745 or visit www.sabagallery.com.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 28. Continues through Aug. 28
