Life’s Short: Play the Ukulele

Looked at your things-to-do-before-I-die list lately? It’s not getting any shorter. Learn a new language: no check yet. Learn a musical instrument: nope. Perform in front of an audience: uh-uh. Well, here’s your chance. Antonio Adolfo, a celebrated Brazilian musician/composer has extended his Rio de Janeiro Centro Musical school to South Florida and named it Hollywood Production and Partners Studios (2040 Sherman St., Hollywood). His focus is on Brazilian music -- a blend of 19th-century European, African, and American jazz elements. “Students will have the chance to learn an instrument and technique, but also [to learn] one of the richest styles of music,” Adolfo says. The Saturdays-only Brazilian music workshop offers group and individual classes for everyone, from beginners to professional musicians. Prospective students can choose to learn guitar, piano, ukulele, drums, percussion, and vocals, as well as Portuguese phrasing. And don’t let fear of a stuffy learning environment dissuade you from signing up. Adolfo is against stuffiness. He’s hoping to create an atmosphere for all to excel and enjoy themselves: a laid-back group environment where students perform as they learn. So go ahead, take out that list, and face the music. Call 786-566-1527, or visit www.antonioadolfo.net. Prices vary based on class size.
Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 4. Continues through Sept. 29, 2007
