Hot baseball goes great with ice cream

By Mia Saavedra

Published on August 16, 2007

After a summer afternoon of baseball, who can say no to ice cream? Today the Florida Marlins host the Second Annual Ice Cream Festival. Edy’s Ice Cream will provide the good stuff, while Marlins players along with the team’s general manager, Larry Beinfest, and assistant general manager, Michael Hill, serve as the festival’s celebrity scoopers.

There will be a bounce house for the little ones, raffles, and of course, tons of ice cream. The festival will start after the Marlins’ game against the San Francisco Giants. Proceeds will benefit the ALS Recovery Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding public awareness about Lou Gehrig’s disease, the fatal illness that took the life of the legendary baseball player. After the game, stick around to meet the Marlins players and support a good cause. Game tickets run $20 to $35. Festival tickets cost $10. Call 305-623-6497, or visit www.alsrecovery.org.
