Finish Line Sports Bar

Finish Line Sports Bar

5300 N. Powerline Rd.

Fort Lauderdale

It's never smart to drink and drive. Especially when the car is tiny and fast enough to require that you wear a helmet. But the folks at Finish Line Sports Bar are kind enough to make the decision for you: You will not drink and drive. And that's final. They even have a Breathalyzer on hand (which comes equipped with a law enforcement officer) to test you if they suspect you've got too much alcohol in your bloodstream. For the most part, though, everyone follows the rules. Finish Line is a huge bar inside the even huger indoor go-carting complex known as Xtreme Indoor Karting. Like most sports bars, this one offers booze, pool tables, punch-o-matics, darts, and plasma TVs tuned to ESPN. But what makes Finish Line unique is that NASCAR fans can imitate their favorite drivers on the half-mile track, then watch Junior, Jimmy, and Jeff pound the pavement onscreen. Doing a couple of laps at 40 or 45 mph can be pretty intoxicating in itself, never mind the full bar and the five-for-$10 domestic and five-for-$14 import buckets. Step off the track and onto the checkered-flag floor of Finish Line and you'll know it's time to rev down your engine and pound 'em back. The bar has been open for only a few months, and management is still working out some kinks — namely the credit-only purchasing/cash-only tipping issue. Monday is ladies night; they race and drink free from 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday night caters to clientele from the service industry: 24 bucks buys them an eight-minute racing session, a game card, and a drink (wells and domestics). Friday through Sunday, it's buy one, get one free with the purchase of an eight-minute racing session.
