You need to go to fashion’s roots to find your wardrobe’s missing link. Fashion forward thinkers know that mixing vintage and modern to cultivate their own style is a lot more interesting than looking like a walking, talking, mannequin from the Express. The problem is that vintage styles and sizes are as arbitrary as their pricing, so you rarely find a dream closet’s worth of goodies on one visit to any shop. But if you plop oodles of vintage retailers together (25 in fact) in the Old School Square Vintage Gymnasium (51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach) – all of whom are competing for your business – well then the odds are turned fortuitously in your favor.

That’s exactly what’s happening this weekend at the Vintage Trunk Show and Sale in Delray Beach. Imagine a two-day-long couture orphanage of fluffy crinolines, go-go dresses, and swing coats hanging patiently until you find them (or until someone else does, so go early and stay late). If you can’t make it through all of the vendors without collapsing, take a cupcake break; House of Sweets is selling batches of the colorfully topped energy snacks to help keep you moving. There will also be a classic car show, a swing dance review, and era-spanning music from the ´40s through the ´60s to help inspire you. The door price is only five bucks, so spend the day blowing the rest of your paycheck on the important stuff: handbags, dresses, and gold lame swimsuits that would make Esther Williams weep with joy.
