99-plus Luft Balloons

Like a bazillion floating, illuminated red and white blood cells lighting up downtown Fort Lauderdale streets, the seventh annual Light the Night Walk will be a critical mass of volunteers carrying bright red, white, and gold balloons for cancer awareness -- specifically targeting leukemia and lymphoma. With a meet-up near the Huizenga Plaza (at the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue), Light the Night will be different from other charity marathons simply because, as campaign coordinator Alexa Diaz puts it, “It’s more of a stroll than a walk.” Translation: you can do the one-mile walk in heels and a dress and still have enough of the primped-yet-dewy look to hit up some Himmarshee bars on your way home. A suggested donation of $25 dollars helps raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and provides food, music, and a boatload of balloons for the night. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. or pre-register online at www.lighthenight.org/sfl. Call 954-961-3234.
