These days there are more denominations of electronica and industrial music than there are YouTube clips of people making fun of Chris Cocker. If we could quantify a number, it would be called something like a hojillion and one – but that’s just speculation. What we do know is that when a band says it’s the purveyor of one such subgenre, such as “hardcore-electro,” they’d better have the brass ones to back it up. Well, that’s certainly the case with “hardcore-electro” group Jackal and Hyde. The Tampa Bay duo blend wailing paranormal sounds and Miami Bass beats with bleeps and klaxons reminiscent of early arcade games, resulting in a sound that’s a bit schizo – say, somewhere in the midst of industrial, bass, breaks, trip-hop, EBM, ghetto-freak, and smooth jazz. OK, so there’s no smooth jazz; but would it be a surprise if they did throw that in the mix somewhere? The pair will be annihilating eardrums live at 10 p.m. this Friday night at Respectable Street (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach). Tickets cost $10.
