Priceless Cuba

Peel back the pages of the new coffee table book I Was Cuba, and discover everything from grape garnished models and ostrich plumed showgirls to rare studio portraits of Ernesto “Che” Guevara juxtaposing snapshots of sultry female impersonator Bobby de Castro. This collaborative effort by Kevin Kwan and Ramiro Fernandez breathes like a cinematographic reel, alternating breathtaking sepia stills with bold crops of color, all springing from Fernandez’s three-decade-old collection (that’s over 3000 images of Cuba life). As a creative consultant for The New York Times and former Photography Editor for Time Inc. respectively, Kwan and Fernandez personally offer up choice morsels of insight about this latest project during a reading/lecture at The Boca Raton Museum of Art (501 Plaza Real, Boca Raton) on October 17 at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Single tickets are $6 for members and $12 for non-members. The images are priceless.
Wed., Oct. 17, 1:30 & 6:30 p.m., 2007
