Survival of the Funniest

Stand up comedy must be one of the few areas in the pop culture world where hard work and talent still count for something. See, unlike music biz wannabes, comedians can't rely on good looks or slick technical gimmickry; it’s just them and the microphone, and they've got to deliver.

What’s that? You’ve got an idea for a reality show that follows comic hopefuls as they're whittled down week by week in competition? Well, someone already thought of it before you. The Last Comic Standing Tour is the culmination of NBC's Emmy-nominated series of the same name, featuring the season's top five finalists, and it’s coming through the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Dr., Coral Springs) Saturday night. This time around, it's Lavell Crawford, Matt Kirshen, Ralph Harris, Gerry Dee, and the winner, John Reep, who you might recognize as being the “That thing got a Hemi?” guy from Dodge commercials.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets cost $38.16 to $46.64. Call 954-344-5999, or visit www.coralspringscenterforhtearts.com.
