We All Wear The Ribbon

Everyone knows someone who’s had it. There are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. In homage to these women, we wear the pale pink ribbon. To raise funds for a cure, you can show support at a variety of Breast Cancer Awareness month eventsthroughout October.

The second annual Shades of Pink event takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Grove Isle Resort and Spa (4 Grove Island Dr., Coconut Grove). There’ll be live painting by Kiki Valdez, flame throwers, and a fashion show to support the Florida Breast Cancer Coalition Research Foundation. Keep it local on Wednesday night (the 24th) at the Paradise Hard Rock Casino (One Paradise Way, Hollywood), when celebrity survivors (like CBS 4’s Laurie Stein) host the mega-party Pink in Paradise. Rosy-hued cocktail concoctions will flow and scrumptious appetizers from the casino’s restaurants will be devoured during this inspirational, celebrational, gathering. Adding a fashionable flair to the night’s events, the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale will be on the catwalk showing off their students’ hottest, girliest, and likely pinkest creations.
