Abortion is Hilarious,

And other things I learned by watching Sarah Silverman.

There are certain things that can only be said aloud if you’re Sarah Silverman. It’s a phenomenon that’s been demonstrated repeatedly since her one-woman show/musical, Jesus is Magic, hit the video store shelves and her appearance on The Aristocrats became urban party legend and her new series, The Sarah Silverman Program, acquired its rabid fan base. Home girl’s just got the comedic timing and sprightly smile needed to pull off juxtaposed one-liners like: “I was licking jelly off my boyfriend’s penis, and suddenly I was thinkin’ ‘Ohmigod, I’m becoming my mother.’”

Watching The Big ‘S’ impale taboo topics, twist them mercilessly, and then present them to an audience is almost like, say, watching that adorable Easter Bunny from the Cadbury commercials devour its young on camera, then use their pelts to perform a fanciful puppet review. You’d giggle, because it would be really cute, but then try to stamp it out, because it’s oh, so wrong. Release those uncomfortable snorts in a judgment-free environment on Sunday when Sarah Silverman performs at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach) at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $41.50 to $67.50.
