The horror climate couldnt be more perfect for the resurgence of fetishistic metal band, Genitorturers, what with the near-endless stream of torture flicks like Hostel 5 and Saw 33 piling up heaps of money. The Orlando-born group is famous for melding balls-out rock with an X-rated sideshow full of torture porn and gothic sexuality (see, there is sex in violence). And while you probably wouldnt call one of their stage acts feel good like, say, the one where a latex-clad devil simulates doggy style sex on the groups lead singer, Gen, who in turn is fellating a bottle of Jack Daniels there certainly isnt a more appropriately depraved place to be on Halloween than Studio A (60 NE 11 St., Miami). Tickets cost $25. Call 305-358-ROCK, or visit www.studioamiami.com.
Drink no wine before its time.
So you spent all day working on your Mahmoud Ahmadinejad costume (creepy!) and forgot the party you were preparing for is B.Y.O.B. No sweat: Just stop by Rose Vine Winery (1080 Linton Blvd., Delray Beach) for a free Halloween Wine Tasting where you can not only pick up a bottle for later but get a head start on that buzz too. All you need to do is show up in your Halloween best from 4 to 6 p.m., and the tasting is free. Plus, the ghoul with the best costume will get a personalized bottle of wine. Call 561-330-8090, or visit www.rosevinewinery.com.
I got the lycanthrope blues.
Usually, the only kind of crooning associated with Halloween is the howls of hungry werewolves on the prowl. But tonight at the HooDoo VooDoo Blues Ball at Downtowner Saloon (408 S. Andrews Blvd., Fort Lauderdale), any howlin done will be the sort thats best mated with the wail of a harmonica and strum of a steel string guitar. If youre not too scared of mysteriously hairy bluesmen, then head down at 8 p.m. for musical performances by The Nucklebusters, Iko Iko, The Spoon Benders, and The Hep Cat Boo Daddies, as well as a mini haunted house, vendors hocking spooky crafts, and the Día De Los Muertos art installation. When drag queens trick or treat, everybody wins.
It goes without saying that cross dressers should know an awful lot about what makes a good costume. Perhaps thats why the City of Wilton Manors and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of South Florida picked drag-queen extraordinaire, Misty Eyez, to judge the assortment of costume contests to be held at the Hell on Heels Block Party Wednesday night. Starting at 5 p.m., the city will shut down Wilton Drive between NE Seventh and Eleventh Avenues for a Halloween festival of epic proportions: Family-friendly trick or treating along the length of the block will run until 7, and after that Misty Eyez will emcee along with G.I.R.L. radio for contests to crown the best pet costume, tattoo and body art, celebrity look-a-like, drag queen, and traditional costumes. How many bare-chested costumes will emerge is a question best left to the statisticians, but remember folks: this is a family event, so be decent. Call 954-463-9005.
