Gaze into the Crystal Ball

And see what the future holds for John Beck.

Here’s a novel thought: The Dolphin’s game against the Bills this Sunday afternoon is one they could actually win. No, really, this Buffalo team may be 3-4, but they’re an exploitable 3-4. Buffalo’s defense is ranked thirtieth in the league, allowing a dismal 381.3 yards per game. Likewise, their offense, led by the unimpressive tandem of Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman, ranks a miserable thirty-first. Somehow they’ve survived by playing games tight, buckling down hard in the red zone, and scoring on turnovers and with special teams. That strategy has paid off against the Fins in the past, as the Bills have beaten the beached fish in five of the last six meetings. Could today be different?

Regardless, the Fins are coming out of this week’s bye at oh-and-eight with the season technically over. Should anyone care if they pull off a win? Maybe not, but what is interesting is the idea that the Fin’s QB of the future, John Beck, may make his first start against the Bills. It makes sense. The Fins have little else to lose at this point, and with the two weeks off, Beck has had time to prepare. Fin’s coach Cam Cameron hasn’t confirmed it that Beck will start, but we should trust his judgment. Cam has groomed three Pro Bowl QBs in the past, including Phillip Rivers and Drew Brees, so even if he can’t produce wins, he may produce a good passer.

See, there is reason to get excited about this one. So get down to Dolphin Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami) at 1 p.m., and expect a tight, divisional matchup. Tickets start at $22. Call 1-888-FINS-TIX, or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
