A: A subgenre of alt country exclusively credited to the Austin five-piece, the Gourds. Also known as “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” or more pointedly, “Gourds Music.” The group is most commonly known for a rollicking, Southern-fried live cover of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice” that toured the Internet almost 10 years ago. However, the full depth of the band – now celebrating its ninth studio album, Noble Creatures – is more difficult to define. The Gourds are often characterized by molasses-thick vocals, twangy bluegrass guitar licks, and up-tempo funk beats, but somber ballads and jug-band anthems can also be heard. Many Gourds sport beards. For further information, visit the Bamboo Room (25 South J St., Lake Worth) Thursday at 9 p.m. Bring $22 for an observation fee. Call 561-585-BLUE, or visit www.bambooroomblues.com.
