An Education in Inebriation

If someone like sake educator John Gaunter were around to give advice during career day, life might’ve looked different for those of us who were struggling to find that perfect gig: one that allows you to see the world through booze-colored glasses.

Gaunter’s a sake journalist, evangelist, and expert of the Japanese wine, and you can reap the benefits of his knowledge during his talk, “The Fundamentals of Sake,” at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens (4000 Morikami Park Rd., Delray Beach). Learn how sake is made, what foods to pair it with, and much more. And those looking for a career change, it’s never too late — Gaunter himself was an electrical engineer before throwing himself into his current passion. Tickets are $25 for museum members and $35 for regular folks, both include an after-lecture tasting. Sake’s made from rice, so it’s almost a meal (but bento boxes are available for purchase beforehand). Call 561-495-0233 ext. 235 to register, or visit www.morikami.org.
