Time to See the Light

Today is the Winter Solstice, meaning the earth is at its maximum tilt with the sun and you can expect progressively longer days until June. What are you going to do with all of that extra sunlight? You can’t store it up (but if you could, it would go into a daylight savings account – ouch!), and most of your friends are busy scurrying around scavenging for last-minute Chriskwanacha presents – there’s only one logical solution: find new friends who share your appreciation of quirky science holidays.

The Center for Inquiry and Broward Atheists could be exactly the new chums you’re looking for. The two organizations team up for all kinds of fun stuff: lectures, films, astronomy nights, and the general debunking of bad science. For today’s Winter Solstice gathering they’ve reserved campsites A-8, 9, and 10 at Markham Park (16001 SR 84, Sunrise) for a barbeque cookout (and tent camping for the bold, who should RSVP in advance), and they’d love you to join them. The big stuff will be provided: water, soda, and grill fixin’s. You can be a team player by bringing a side dish, insights into the world around you, and an inquisitive mind.
