Wednesday marks the midway point of the workweek. It usually marks ladies night too. But this is a good ol' boys bar. At Bill's Filling Station (by far one of the coolest bar names I've come across), you won't see any Confederate battle flags, but you might catch a few flags flying in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet horizontal stripes. Bill's is huge. Two bars stand at opposite ends of the main room, which is split by a couple of pool tables that are rarely occupied but look really cool: red felt lit by red lamps oozing red light. As is the stage, which is large enough to hold a five-piece band. Or one RuPaul (he shows up every once in a while). There's plenty of light, but the matte-black floor and ceiling absorb and ease the glow. LCD monitors ranging from 25 to 42 inches line the walls and display resident VJ Gary Nolan's art, which comes in the form of dance music mixed to match offbeat videos (catch him Friday through Monday). Sticking to the filling station theme, Bill's is decorated with Americana road-trip paraphernalia. License plates from across the States cover one wall, old hubcaps cover another, tires grip the steps of a third, metal mesh dividers stand around adorned with red reflectors, and, coolest of all, air filters hang as lamps from the bar. Get two-for-one on everything Mondays and Wednesdays. Get Stoli cocktails for $3 on Tuesdays and $3 margaritas on Thursdays. Come in on Friday for a late-night happy hour from midnight to 2 a.m., and on Saturday, take advantage of $3 Long Island iced teas. There's no shortage of the liquid stuff at Bill's, so fill up, and be sure to make a pit stop before you leave: Bill's has the cleanest bathrooms you'll ever find in a place full of guys.
