High Fashion Meets High Art
It’s easy to see why Americans are so obsessed with (ahem, baffled by) high fashion. To start with, the extravagance is perplexing. Who would go to Chili’s or T.G.I. Friday’s in those fancy runways clothes, even if they could afford them? (Not to mention that a size 0 may be a little snug on most of us.) But it’s also that the designers’ creativity is alluring, and runway models often resemble moving canvases. The skill of turning pieces of fabric into fashion leaves most of us simply amazed. @cal body 2:Michael Vollbracht embodies the best of what this glamorous realm has to give. As a world-renowned fashion designer, author, and illustrator, he has become a Renaissance man. (A versatile Ren Man at that! He’s dressed everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Laura Bush.) And since he recently retired from Bill Blass Ltd., Volbracht has turned his attentions to a more stationary canvas: paintings inspired by the human form itself. His latest exhibit is called “Ladies and Gentle Beasts,” a collection of works taken from private and public stocks. Catch them on exhibit at the Wally Findlay Galleries (165 Worth Ave., Palm Beach) through the end of February. Call 561-655-2090.
