A Byrd has Flown the Coop

Roger McGuinn changed stuff. In 1967, he changed his name from Jim to Roger on the advice of an Indonesian guru. The dude thought “Roger” would “vibrate better with the universe.” As the driving force behind The Byrds, McGuinn also helped change pop music in the mid-´60s by bridging the divide between acoustic folk and the emerging electric rock sounds of the Beatles and Stones. With a band that included David Crosby, McGuinn played guitar and sang on classics like the proto-psychedelic “Eight Miles High,” as well as major covers of Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” and Pete Seeger’s biblically-inspired “Turn! Turn! Turn!”

The Byrds disbanded in the early ´70s, but McGuinn took the solo path lo these many decades. This Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Jim/Roger brings his 12-string guitar “jingle jangle” to The Maltz Jupiter Theatre (1001 E. Indiantown Road, Jupiter.) Tickets cost $25-$30.
