Fie, Standard Definition, Fie!

Here’s the thing about HDTV: Once you take the step towards that enormous set and each one of its beautiful 1,080 lines of resolution, you’re spoiled for regular TV forever. Shoot, you’re actually sort of spoiled for real life. Nothing looks as good to you anymore – be it live football games, food at your favorite restaurants, or even the view from your cheap seats at the opera. Lucky for you, even the purveyors of classical performance art are catching on to the HD phenomenon, or you’d still be stuck in your house watching CSI: Miami in HD (David Caruso’s face…so hypnotizing). And on Saturday night, the Society of the Four Arts (2 Four Arts Plaza, Palm Beach) will be showing an HD broadcast of Macbeth live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.Yup, the Society’s state-of-the-art theater (JBL Dolby Digital sound, Eiki 1080i projector; drool.) is the perfect place to ramp up your cultural acumen while simultaneously gorging yourself on crystalline feeds. In addition to showcasing the action at angles you could never dream of in a live theater, the Met’s HD broadcasts include behind the scenes footage and interviews with the cast. Score! The Met’s HD season runs on select dates until April 26. Tickets start at $21. Call 561-655-7226, or visit www.fourarts.org.
