It’s Gettin’ Hot in Here!

“Climate change” is the nice way to say it. There’s just this pesky stigma surrounding the phrase “global warming.” It makes people think about unpleasantries like polar bears floating on melting islands of ice and Al Gore and even that terrible movie Water World – because deep down we know that when it’s all said and done, we’re destined to live like sci-fi pirates floating across the (former) state of Florida, chain-smoking.

Yes. Global warming. We see more evidence of it all the time (remember that one day of winter we had this year, Florida?), and yet we either (1) do nothing or (2) fall in line with the opposers -- the same fringe group, most likely, that wants you to believe the moon walk was a hoax. Why are so many fighting against a scientifically supported theory? What causes people to turn a blind eye? Is it all just too depressing to face? The new documentary Everything’s Cool examines this conundrum in a light-hearted way, like man on the street interviews that conclude “Jesus will come back and fix it.” Amen. Chill out with Everything’s Cool when it screens at Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale) on Thursday at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $5 to $8. Visit www.fliff.com.
