For anyone who’s seen the HBO phenom Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jeff Garlin is instantly recognizable. He’s the hulking, jovial yes-man to Larry David; his agent, best friend, and partner-in-crime, all at once. Oh, the misadventures they get into. Remember when Larry got Jeff into hot water for unearthing his secret porn stash in front of his family, prompting Jeff’s profanity-spewing wife to kick him out of the house? Remember all the times Larry told Jeff something in confidence, then Jeff opened his mouth and planted Larry’s foot squarely in it? Good times.

It’s strange, actually: The show’s become so popular that it’s hard to distance any of the characters, Garlin included, from their TV personas. So what can you expect when Garlin takes the stage this Friday and Saturday at the Improv Paradise Live (5700 Seminole Way, Fort Lauderdale)? For starters, probably a lot of monologue-style reminiscing over Garlin’s real-life misadventures, many of which took place here in South Florida. Yup, Jeffie’s a local boy – he graduated from high school in Davie and worked towards a degree in filmmaking at UM (but he never got it – see, he’s just like us!). He may also tell a story about getting kicked out of SoFla comedy clubs, something that happened to him on more than one occasion during his formative years here.
