Indie-pendence Day

Owen Ashworth, AKA Chicago-based Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, is inspired by collecting used shoes and strange Florida wildlife. We would tell you more about him, but we really don’t know that much – after all, his bio totals nine words. What we do know is this: Vice Magazinecalled his latest album “pussy-ass music,” one of his Myspace songs is a chillaxed tribute to Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia,” and his career is centered on a cheap, battery-powered keyboard. Translation: if that ain’t indie, what is?

Here’s another nugget of truth: CFTPA is the Saturday night headliner for the Honeycomb Weekend – a three-day indiexplosion with some of the freshest acts from across the country – so you won ’t want to miss it. CFTPA is being supported by Hello Human and Dear Nora (the latter’s founder, Cali-based Katy Davidson, is “hoping for crocodile sightings” while touring in Florida). Sadly, chances of crocs at Respectable Street (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach) tonight are slim, but the Florida wildlife Casiotone seeks will be in abundance. Tickets cost $8.
