Just a Couple of Mixed-up Kids? Maybe…

Sado-masochist couples, dark satire, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: these things are hardly ever discussed in the same room. And if you were to find a foyer where all three collide, you will most likely be in the most uncomfortable emotional state of your life. So it’s interesting that the play “Dirty Story” combines them all in a jaunty, comedic way.

When it first hit in New York, “Dirty Story” teased and tortured audiences into submission; it also hit all the right pressure points in critics -- they raved about its masterfully constructed plot line, its surprise twists, and its all-around deliciously New York Intellectual Attractiveness. So how will that same play fare in South Florida, where nice implants are considered “classy” and intellectual equates with “one who shops at Whole Foods”? Find out on Friday. That’s when the go-getter company Mosaic Theatre (American Heritage Center for the Arts, 12200 W. Broward Blvd., Building 3000, Plantation), under the watchful eye of guest Director Kim St. Leon, unveils its own performance of the production. Since it’s opening night, you can swish wine and chat about allegorical narrative with other theater enthusiasts during the post-show reception. “Dirty Story” runs through March 23. Tickets cost $15 to $32. Call 954-577-8243, or visit www.mosaictheatre.com.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 29. Continues through March 23, 2008
