Let’s Not Cut Our Own Guys

The hockey trade deadline has come and gone. Thankfully, Olli Jokinen is still on the team, and more surprising, the Panthers added some good role players in gritty winger Chad Kilger, ironman Karlis Skrastins (who has played in 495 games in a row, an NHL record), and tough-guy Wade Belak. While it sucks to see Ruslan Salei go, the Cats got a whole lot tougher and proved that they’re still scratching their way toward the playoffs and the lead in the Southeast Division. If they have any hope in securing a regional title, our hometown boys will have to take it to the Atlanta Thrashers tonight, who lost pending free agent Marian Hossa and picked up a host of young talent from Pittsburgh on deadline day. It should be exciting to see the new look Thrashers get pounded by Olli and company. Plus, there’s not much time left to catch the Cats at the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise) this season. Tickets start at $17. Call 954-835-8000, or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
