It’s About Pride

Even an otherwise peaceful city like Lake Worth needs the occasional socially active hoopla. Luckily this Saturday and Sunday are just that. Pridefest of the Palm Beachesis now in its 15th year, and the two-day soirée has grown into a monster event of recording artists, DJs, celeb sightings, and, of course, one hella big parade. This year’s musician line up includes Latin dance hit songstress Shalina (Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m.), Orlando artist Jennifer C. (Sunday at 4 p.m.), and Fort Lauderdale favorites Bev McClellan (Saturday at 4 p.m.) and Teri Catlin (Saturday at 5 p.m.). Also, if you couldn’t stop dancing during Oren Nizri’s White Party set, be prepared to get your grind on when he spins a post-parade free-for-all on Sunday.

Still not enough to get your fabulous self off of the couch? How about a weekend of mingling with Ms. Cleo – psychic to the stars? She’s emceeing the affair, so maybe you could hit her up for love advice when she’s between appearances. Most importantly, Pridefest is put on each year by Compass, the Palm Beach-based (though soon relocating to Lake Worth) Gay and Lesbian Community Center, so all funds raised go back into neighborhood programs. This year’s parade is starting at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, and it’s kicking off at L Street and Lacern, so get there early. All other festivities occur in Bryant Park (Corner of Golfview and Lake Ave., Lake Worth). Tickets cost $7, get them in advance at Compass (7600 S. Dixie Hwy., West Palm Beach), or at the gate.
