Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival: It’s Kind of a Big Deal

By Dan Renzi

Published on April 24, 2008

South Florida is chock-full of “gay” events year-round, with the various circuit parties and the parades and the pride festivals and such -- but none have the panache of the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, running from April 25 (tonight!) to May 4. This evening rub well-toned elbows with the cultured at the Guzman Center for the Performing Arts (174 E. Flagler St., Miami) for the unveiling of Breakfast with Scot, a love story so cute it makes Meg Ryan jealous. It’s followed with a “Christmas in April” afterparty at Jungle Island. Although we’re most excited for tomorrow’s big event: Jay McCarroll, the winner of Project Runway Season One, is here for a screening of his documentary Eleven Minutes, and after the film, there’s a party on the roof of the Dorset Hotel (1732 Collins Ave, South Beach), featuring a fashion show with Jay’s latest line. How chic! Most of the screenings are on Lincoln Road, although the festival also expands into Fort Lauderdale theaters next week, starting May 1, so check www.mglff.com for showtimes and locations.
