Plan 9 from Delray Beach!

Something happened on the way to the Delray Beach Film Festival: a meddling, sci-fi spoof of B-movie camp somehow slinked in! Yup, Elixir boasts garishly-garbed, over-rouged aliens, a grindhouse production ethos, and a rock-bottom budget ($10,000!). It’s corny as hell, but don’t take our word for it. Just ask Elixir actress Rachel Galvin, who plays “sexiest reporter in the galaxy” Magalada Hoopalong: “We tried to honor the cheesy costume flicks of the 1950s and ΄60s. We’re talkin’ old, rusty robots, holograms, and badly CGI-ed spaceships. Really tacky stuff.”

The premise alone is worth the plunge: A wannabe dancer named Falfinn transforms his body using a DNA encoder, allowing him to masquerade as his arch-rival Boton and win an interplanetary dance competition. Course, he needs to quaff a potion first to improve his nimble steppin’ (that would be the elixir). Suspend disbelief and catch Falfinn’s journey today at 5 p.m. at the Crest Theater (51 N.
