Attention, aspiring wizards, anime enthusiasts, and cosplay superstars: This is your weekend to shine. For three glorious days Weston is transforming its everyday persona: from sleepy, upscale suburb to geektastic wonderland. Yes! It’s the newest installment of Florida Supercon, and it’s gearing up to be the biggest, grandest, dorkiest party to date. The guest list is beyond lengthy, and it’s studded with Hogwarts stars. Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks), Devon Murray (Seamus Finnegan), and Stanislov Ianevski (Viktor Krum) will all be hobnobbing, so you can ask them those pressing questions that have bothered you for years. (“Tell me the truth Tena: Which way does Dumbledore swing his wand?”)

One of the best events happens tonight: the Harry Potter Wizard Rock Ball – which is kind of like a high school dance, but without all of those sucky athletic types lurking about. Wiz rockers Marked as his Equal, the Gryffindor Common Room Rejects, and Witherwings will entertain with their narrative-heavy serenades to Hogwarts, while you make time with that caped hottie you’ve been eyeing. Take a timeout from the Potter lovefest to play Rockband with Dana Snyder (Master Shake), and then go back for a second helping of Hogwarts during a screening of the Wizard Rockumentary.

Whatever you do, pace yourself – you’ve got a whole weekend of magical mayhem ahead of you. Samantha Newark, the speaking voice of Jem (I know, it’s truly outrageous) will be onsite for a Q&A and CD listening party on Sunday. Loads of bands like Peelander-Z and Chickenbox will play on Saturday. And the rest of the weekend? Well, shoot, it’s full-up with anime/Potter/cosplay activities galore. (See the whole schedule at www.floridasupercon.com.) Can you believe a three-day pass is only $30, and a one-day pass is just $20? Score! Get ‘em at the door. Supercon is going down at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure (250 Racquet Club Rd., Weston).
