Make Love, Music, and Pain — Cubed

Modern cinema rarely makes room in its bed for a musical, but since the release of the new French flick Love Songs, it’s decided that cuddling might be back on the menu. Fans of director Christophe Honoré (Dans Paris) are clamoring to catch a peak; who remembers the last time a musical about threesomes was so… adorable?

The poppy, subtitled soundtrack follows a struggling couple that discovers its capacity for love is larger than originally thought. Both develop passionate feelings for a third partner, a charming brunette alto who adds perfect harmony to both his tenor and her soprano. (Zis is, how ze French zay… ménage a trois?) But dining at the all-you-can-eat love buffet has its emotional price, a fact the triad soon must face. Never has the tortured unraveling of romance been so beautiful; you might even wish that you too could wear fabulous clothes, sing sweetly, and dance through cobbled, rain-kissed French streets as your life fell apart. Fall in love today at 4 and 8 p.m. at Lake Worth Playhouse (714 Lake Ave., Lake Worth). Call 561-586-6410, or visit www.lakeworthplayhouse.org. Love Songs runs through Thursday.
