A touching, sassy little play about lives intersecting at a beauty shop. This is called Steel Magnolias, unless it involves a she-male and a former American Idol contestant. Then its called Combing Through Lifes Tangles and its a musical! Starring in the piece are world-renowned (backup) singer (previously with Julio Iglesias) Everlayn Borges, season six Idol semi-semi-semi-finalist Perla Meneses, and writer/creator Mario Betto, who plays the transgender Cori at Combings center. Cori is facing an identity crisis, and through the idioms of theater, film snippets and music, we face it with her. Combing happens at Sixth Star Studios (505 NW 1st Ave., Fort Lauderdale), and all proceeds go to benefit Hairstylists For Humanity. (Seriously: Hairstylists For Humanity.) Tickets cost $25 - $30, and you can buy em at theatermania.com, or find more info at www.combingthroughlifestangles.com.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: May 29. Continues through June 8, 2008
