Phillin’ it

The Phillies are either the team you most want to see as a Marlins fan, or the most feared. The Marlins made their surprise run to first place in the National League East on the backs of their batters, but it’s their pitching that remains suspect. The Phillies are likewise liable to give up runs, but just as likely to gorge themselves on any Marlins’ pitching weaknesses. Late in May, the Phils posted 35 runs across two games — and those were on back-to-back nights in Houston and Philadelphia. On any normal team, Chase Utley, 2007 MVP Jimmy Rollins, or (a non-slumping) 2006 MVP Ryan Howard would be the jewel offensive threat; Philadelphia brandishes all three.

The Phils could take the Marlins yard and then hand the runs right back, so settle into those outfield seats and bring your favorite catching mitt Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. at Dolphin Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami). Tickets start at $9. Get them at the gate, or satisfy your A-type leanings by reserving them at florida.marlins.mlb.com, or by calling 954-523-3309.
