Va-Va-VOOMBy Carlos Suarez De JesusPublished on June 12, 2008 at 12:01amAvant theater icon Roger Wilson has raised the curtain on the future of portraiture in his skull-staving series of works at the Bass Museum of Art (2121 Park Ave., Miami Beach). VOOM Portraits features 25 high-def images of people and animals presented on large-scale HD plasma flat screens. In Wilson's clever vignettes, celebrities channel characters from plays or even historical figures, upending the viewer's notions of vanity and fame. Johnny Depp is one such star: He appears in drag as Duchamp's alter ego Rose Selavy. Robert Downey Jr. also gets the treatment, appearing as a corpse in Rembrandt's Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicholas Tulp, and Princess Caroline pulls double duty as her mum, Grace Kelly, in Rear Window. VOOM shows through August 3. Tickets cost $8. Call 305-673-7530, or visit www.bassmuseum.org.
