Say Goodnight to the Bad Guy

How do you know when you’re the villain in a film? Huge piles of coke on your desk are a dead giveaway, but what about the more subtle cues? For instance, if you command legions of mindless henchmen and you’re not ordering them to bring ice cream to sick children, you’re probably up to no good. Likewise, if your voice rises to a fevered pitch at the end of each sentence followed by a maniacal laugh, you are, in all likelihood, evil. Finally, if you have a nemesis, or possibly nemeses, then you need to buy some tights, because you are totally someone’s bad guy.

So it turns out you’re a villain after all. Don’t worry too much about it, non-friend — villains get an assload of benefits. There’s the union, great healthcare, and government funding, but more importantly, you get art exhibits themed after you — like “Villains & More Villains,” opening Saturday at Pink Ghost (21 W. Las Olas Blvd., Ste. B, Fort Lauderdale). The group show pays tribute to the evildoers we all love to hate — from sexy foes like Catwoman, who shoots a sly grin in Mike Bell’s Bad Kitty; to Stuntkid’s Maleficent, the dark queen who toils as Sleeping Beauty’s tormentor. There’s also the prettier half of Rocky and Bullwinkle’s dastardly duo, Natasha, who’s more endearing than ever thanks to cutesy illustrator Helena Garcia; and deeper stuff like Lou Pimentel’s The Real King, a portrait of the terrible truth behind Burger King’s oh-so-creepy mascot.
