Chew It Up & Dance It Out

Two local benefits help raise funds for cancer victims

Cancer’s a bastard and there’s nothing we can do to stop it yet. So in the meantime, let’s throw some celebrations in the spirit of helping those who are stricken with this horrible disease and raise a few bucks to throw their way in the process. Dine at the Sweet Tomatoes location in Coral Springs (1850 University Dr.) from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and 15 percent of the cost of your meal (with flyer) will help lessen medical expenses for Briana M., a special 14-year-old local gal stricken with a rare form of ovarian cancer. Call her former schoolteacher at Sawgrass Springs Middle School in Coral Springs, Larry Bremner, at 954-825-9183 for the scoop, and the flyer. Then on Saturday, head to the Hollywood Playhouse (2640 Washington St., Hollywood) and participate in Dance for the Cure, starting at 6 p.m. Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and access to a multi-style dance recital are included with the $25 ticket price. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Call 954-922-0404 for more information.
