That’s What Friends Are For

If the auditions for American Idol have taught us anything, it’s that friends can be cruel beyond words. At some point in each of those painfully bad singers lives, their “buddies” must have encouraged them to become the next Robert Goulet despite the fact their singing sounds like a squawking chicken being shoved through a wood chipper.

Stephen Temperley’s play Souvenir tells the true story of a New York socialite who let her friends’ pleasantries about her awful voice swell her ego so much she began holding recitals for charities. The pure horror that was her voice began attracting crowds of people and cult status soon followed. For a ton of laughs, check out Souvenir running Wednesday through Sunday at 8 p.m. with special matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The show runs through August 17 at Palm Beach Dramaworks (322 Banyan Blvd., West Palm Beach) and tickets start at $40. Call 561-514-4042, or visit www.palmbeachdramaworks.org.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 16. Continues through Aug. 16, 2008
