Dark Knight on IMAX

Batman Goes Big

So you’ve seen Iron Manand The Incredible Hulk, slogged through The Happening, and had a chuckle at Wall-E.And if you could say anything about this summer’s blockbusters movie season, it’s that it actually had some meat on its usually gaunt bones (well, except The Happening; that blew). That said, none of the films that have come and gone could come close to sating your appetite for the one summer blockbuster you’ve wanted to see since 2005: The Dark Knight.

The second Batman effort from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale (see our review in Film) tells the tale of the Dark Knight’s two greatest foes, Two-Face and the Joker. By now, everyone’s aware of the buzz surrounding the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker — that his performance is Oscar worthy, transcending all other depictions of the villain. Maybe that’s the case, but Nolan has made it clear that the main tension in the film lies in Harvey Dent’s transformation into Two-Face; a character that exemplifies the subtle differences between villain and vigilante. Tonight, you can catch the opening of The Dark Knight the way it was meant to be seen: Writ large on the very big screen at the IMAX Theater (in the Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Nolan shot a number of scenes in the movie specifically for IMAX, so no matter what you think of Ledger’s performance it’s bound to be a unique experience. Tickets start at $9.
