Mix Ultra Lounge

Back in the day, the address 1903 Hollywood meant O'Hara's – a constant blend of jazz and blues brewed for nearly 15 years. Today, the new Mix Ultra Lounge did away with O'Hara's Americana- and New Orleans-inspired décor. Mix is well-dressed, glowing in purple and red. A brick industrial grit balances well with the smooth granite tops and dark oak. It's urban-chic, and yet its peeps are as easygoing as any in little Hollywood. The hosts welcome you with open arms. Literally. The bouncers, though suited up and thoroughly professional, smile amiably. The bartenders, in their, um, sexy corsets, lean over and do a damned good job of acting interested in your buzzed musings. They chat and dance and look awesome shaking up your martini. (Try the dirty girl; it's Kettle One vodka and olive juice except that the olives are stuffed with blue cheese. For a sweeter taste, go with Pop My Cherry: Kettle One Citroen vodka, Cointreau, lemon juice, and a sugar-rimmed glass.) Video mixes entertain the early crowd. Live music by the likes of Haviken Hayes, Lovechild, Derek Mack, and Riverdown happens after dark. There's a host of different bands every week. One staple is Cato K and the Y-100 live broadcast Fridays after 11 p.m. Wednesday is ladies night, but happy hour happens every day from 4 to 8 p.m. It's a sweet, courteous bunch here, but note the strict dress code. No headbands. No caps. So if you're looking for exclusivity, this is not the spot. But if you want the sexy furnishings without the posturing, Mix will be a welcome addition to Hollywood.
