Kevin Pollack Is Someone Else

Apart from being talented, famous, and rich, it probably kind of sucks to be Kevin Pollack.

Pollack clawed around the far edges of showbiz from the age of 10 ‘til the age of 20, finally becoming a household face (if not a household name) after landing a supporting role in Willow. Movie followed movie, and now the guy has millions of fans all over the world. These fans all want the same thing: they want Mr. Pollack to… be someone else.

And that someone is almost always either Christopher Walken or William Shatner. For some reason, God saw fit to make Kevin Pollack a master imitator of marginal Hollywood celebs, and now he’s more known for this ability than for the Catskillish wit of his standup, his dramatic chops, and his onscreen comic acumen combined (he was the non sex-symbol lawyer in A Few Good Men, the eternally flustered son in Grumpy Old Men, and a gazillion other things). When Pollack goes out, nervous fans do not ask him to reprise his gutter-cool lines from The Usual Suspects. They ask him to do James T. Kirk.

It’s a hard life, but a profitable one. You can help make it more so by checking out his show at The Improv (5700 Seminole Way, Fort Lauderdale) tonight, the next night, or the next night, at both 8 and 10:30 p.m. Tix cost $23.32; call 954-981-5653, or visit www.improvftl.com.
