You Don’t Even Have to Flip the Side

In today’s world of iPods and MP3s, it’s not often that you listen to an album front to back. But remember when you used to put a record on the turntable, tune everything else out, and simply enjoy it? Remember when playing an album was an experience? Well the musicians behind Classic Albums Live do. The rotating band of well-traveled music vets recreates note-for-note seminal rock albums from legends like AC/DC, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Their reproductions deliver the best of both worlds – the track-by-track journey conveys the narrative and emotional flow of album, but coupled with the powerful, raw sound you can only get from a live show. Thursday through Saturday, Classic Albums Live will delve into Are You Experienced?, Hendrix’s landmark debut album of rollicking anthems (“Fire”) and liquid ballads (“May This Be Love”), and Pearl, Joplin’s posthumously released disc of bluesy hits (“Me and Bobby McGee” and “Move Over”). Check it out at Paradise Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood), the smaller, 600-seat sister venue to Hard Rock Live that uses same sound system as the half-house shows at Hard Rock (read: it’ll sound better than your iPod headphones). Tickets run $20. Call 954-523-3309, or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
